New Lifetime Achievement Award Announced at Women in the City Launch Event.

Today, Gwen Rhys, founder of Women in the City, unveiled a new Lifetime Achievement Award at the launch event for the Seventh Annual Women in the City Lunch and Awards 2009, at The University of Chicago Booth School of Business in London.

She said, “I am delighted to announce our new Lifetime Achievement Award today and hope it will bring encouragement to others in what are difficult times for many in the city. The Women in the City Lifetime Achievement Award recognises the dedication and service that many women give throughout the whole of their careers.”

Each year the hotly contested awards scheme attracts nominations from high profile business women across London. Award categories include; Accountancy, Alternative Investment, Financial Services, Insurance, Legal, Management Consultancy, Property and Facilities Management.

The annual Women in the City Awards recognise excellence and celebrates the achievements of senior and partner-level professionals working in central London. The Seventh Annual Women in the City Lunch and Awards 2009 will take place on 27th November at Plaisterers’ Hall, London.

The Awards judging panel is chaired by Prof Susan Vinnicombe, OBE, Director of the International Centre for Women Leaders at Cranfield School of Management and producer of the Female FTSE Report.

In 2008 Amanda Blanc, Chief Executive of Towergate Partnership’s UK Broking Division, won the overall Women in the City Jaguar Woman of Achievement Award. Amanda Blanc beat seven other finalists to scoop the overall prize which was presented by Kirstie Allsopp on behalf of the Award’s sponsor, Jaguar.

The 2009 Women in the City Awards are endorsed by major UK professional bodies including; ICAEW, FSSC, CII, The Law Society & The Association of Women Solicitors, IBC, RICS and the FMA. To date the Women in the City Partners for 2009 are Jaguar and Women Inspired by Wine with further sponsors to be announced shortly.
