Sips in the City – just my cuppa tea!

On 26 September 2017 we hosted a unique – first of its kind – wine tasting in the special setting of Australia House on The Strand, a government building not usually open to the public and one that features in various films including Wonder Woman.

Over 50 female winemakers and winery principals flew in from Australia to be part of this unique Women in Wine event. We teamed up with Wine Australia, the marketing body for Australian wine, who are hosting the Australian Women in Wine Awards (AWIWA) on 26 September in London to bring you this ultra-special event.

Guests met over 50 Aussie women in wine and tasted the quality and diversity of Australian wine.

In the evening of 26 September, these Aussie winemakers and winery principals will be running a special tasting for us, showcasing over 100 wines. Guests met Australia’s most prominent women in wine, tasted their wines and heard their stories. The winemakers poured their wines and demonstrated the quality, diversity and innovation of Australian wine.

The evening was the largest gathering of Australian women winemakers and winery principals outside Australia. Attending winemakers and winery principals included Prue Henschke (Henschke), Virginia Willcock (Vasse Felix), Louisa Rose (Yalumba), Sandra de Pury (Yeringberg), Christie Schulz (Turkey Flat), Corrina Wright (Oliver’s Taranga), Samantha Connew (Stargazer), Stephanie Toole (Mount Horrocks) and Rebekah Richardson (Irvine Wines).

Wineries  from over 20 wine regions across Australia – including Adelaide Hills, Barossa Valley, Coonawarra, Margaret River, McLaren Vale and Tasmania, attended.

Guests met some of  Australia’s most prominent women in wine, tried their wines and heard their stories. Winemakers include Sarah Fagan (De Bortoli), Louisa Rose (Yalumba), Virginia Willcock (Vasse Felix) and Prue Henschke (Henschke). These winemaker stars only come to the UK every few years and having them all under one roof is a first.
