I am deeply honoured to have been chosen by Women in the City for the Health Category Award. As a woman working in Science and as the Vice President of the Medical Women’s Federation I want to share this award with all women working in Medicine who have sacrificed so much for their careers.
It takes much energy and even more determination to be a woman and mother at home whilst aiming for the top of one’s career with medical shifts,on call demands and the responsibility of others’ wellbeing competing for our attention and at the forefront of our minds
Founder and Director of the National Problem Gambling Clinic, the first and only NHS service for pathological gamblers and their families.She is a medical doctor specialized in Addiction psychiatry and an Honorary Senior Lecturer in the Division of Brain Science at Imperial College.She is Vice President of the Medical Women’s Federation.
Henrietta is a member of the UK Government’s Responsible Gambling Strategy Board having been elected in 2009. She is the Royal College of Psychiatrists’ Spokesperson on Behavioural Addictions as well as having spent nine years (2005-2014) as an elected member of the Uk’s Executive Committee Addictions Faculty. During four of those years she was Treasurer of the Faculty.
She has given more than 150 lectures nationally and internationally and has been interviewed by the Media (Today Programme , Women’s Hour, Financial Times, the Times etc) more than 200 times on topics such as decision making,children’s mental health, internet addiction and problem gambling.
Her doctorate thesis at Imperial College was on Ventromedial Pre-frontal cortex impairment in alcohol dependent subjects as a prognostic indicator.She has published papers, written nine book chapters and has edited two textbooks ( ‘A Clinician’s Guide to working with Problem Gamblers’is now on Amazon) coming out in early 2015.
